1914: Belgium gains control of Rwanda

1933: Rwandan ethnic groups, the Hutus and Tutsis, had begun being classified by their noses and given identity cards.

1959: First free election is held and a Hutu is elected

1962: Rwanda gained independence

1990-1994: Rwandan Civil War
-Left a crippling economy and a famine leaving Rwandans hungry
-987 cartons of machetes were imported into Rwanda
